MIDLAKE – The Ghouls
Midlake returns with “The Ghouls”, the first single from their sixth album “A Bridge to Far” arriving November 7th. Eric Pulido wrote the track after band discussions about their future goals, describing it as facing challenges “head on to create something extraordinary.”
Recorded at Denton’s Echo Lab with producer Sam Evian, the album features Madison Cunningham, Hannah Cohen, and Meg Lui. The sessions were deliberately unforced: “everything felt effortless and authentic,” says Pulido. After uncertainty about the band’s direction, “The Ghouls” became the catalyst that reignited their shared purpose.
The track opens with delicate piano before settling into Midlake’s signature textured folk-rock. Pulido’s vocals remain unadorned, anchoring the song’s contemplative lyrics about hope as “a human necessity.” It’s both familiar Midlake territory and subtle progression.
After three years since “For the Sake of Bethel Woods”, the band proves their enduring chemistry. “We love one another,” Pulido notes. “When we’re able to carve out time, it’s a cherished experience.” Twenty years in, they’re still finding new paths through familiar forests.
